It's time to renew you!
When we come together to find ourselves and to support one another, we all shine a little bit brighter. You deserve the same love and attention you have directed to others for so many years.
"Self care is not about self-indulgence, it is about self-preservation." ~Audre Lorde
Are you a mom of a teen or young adult? If so, then, like me, you know the unique challenges that come at this stage of life. You may be feeling more like a chauffeur, ATM, cook or maid rather than the cherished one you used to be. The child whose sparkling eyes beamed up at you as if to say, "You are my whole world!" now greets you with a little less enthusiasm. You may be uncertain what your role is as you both step into this time of big transition. You may find yourself balancing work, fun, and caring for kids and parents. You've given so much of yourself that you may feel drained and depleted. You might be caught in the delicate balancing act of loving and letting go, as they strive for independence and you step toward your next chapter of life.
You might catch yourself looking in the mirror and wondering, "Who is this woman and what does she need?" You've been "Timmy's mom or Susie's mom" for so long. You may be scared and uncertain to face the empty spaces and times that are showing up more and more. Maybe you feel a stirring in your soul that tells you there's more for you - you have lots of life ahead of you and urgency pounds in your heart with a mix of excitement and fear as you step through the gateway into mid-life. What do you want to create and who do you want to be in this part of your life?
Know that you are not alone. Often times parenting is a lonely occupation and you may not know where to turn or who to talk to. When we face dark times with our kids, we may find ourselves isolating, believing we are the only ones, feeling guilt and shame for what we are going through. When your house feels empty and your heart is longing for connection, and you think it's only you, know that there are countless other women standing in their kitchens or sitting in boardrooms feeling the same longing.
Self-Care & Self-Honoring are the Foundations
You might believe it's selfish to put yourself on your priority list and you may have so much on your plate, you can't even imagine squeezing out a corner for you. If you've been living a Superwoman life, doing it all for everyone and everything, it's time to put down the cape... Go ahead, right now. Take it off - lay it down and step away from the cape! Escape to your own Bat Cave (OK, I'm mixing up my supreheroes, but you get what I mean) - close the door, put up a "do not disturb" sign, grab your favorite beverage and give yourself 75 minutes to slow down, quiet down, and take advantage of this time to recharge yourself. I promise you, you will re-enter rejuvenated, restored, refreshed, and more ready to face what might be coming your way in the next moment.
Renee Trudeau defines self-care as, "The art of attuning and responding to your needs and desires, moment to moment." Self-care begins when we make time to get to know ourselves so that we can really do the things that fill us up - take a nap, hike a mountain, bake a cake, create a watercolor, dance to your heart's content, or get to yoga- whatever it may be for you!
Is it really worth my time?
In a word, "YES!" When you create even a little bit of time to connect with yourself, your inner wisdom, and honor who you are and what nourishes and fulfills you to live the life you desire, magic begins to happen!
It's time to love and nurture your sweet self the way you've cared for your child all these years. You deserve it, and you know yourself better than anyone else - deep down you know what you need and what you long for, even if you've lost touch with those places by being stretched in a million different directions. You know what your hopes and dreams are for the rest of your life, and now is the perfect time to start building your reserves, filling your well, so that you have the energy and vitality to go for them!
- finding and creating joy, even when people around you are struggling - separating your happiness from anyone else's
- taking brief moments of quiet to reflect, go within, journal, and listen to your deep inner wisdom
- finding and following your dreams and passions, and really showing up to life as the beautiful woman you are
- making time for you and saying "no" to obligations and should's
- building a support network where you belong, where it's safe to show up exactly as you are, with no hiding, no shame
- responding to kids and coworkers from a calm, grounded place rather than being bounced around like a
ping pong ball of emotions, no matter what is going on around you
When we understand that self-renewal is not selfish, but a great act of love, we see how it ripples out to those around us. A happy, grounded mama leads to happier families, closer friendships, productive workplaces, creative problem-solving, creative creating... the list goes on! It's a huge win-win-win!
There is nothing more beautiful than a woman who knows that she is worthy of the time she carves out to replenish and renew. This woman touches her greatness, believes in her potential, and knows that she is ok, exactly as she is. This woman claims her space in the world as the unique, authentic wonder she is, and finds a way to be more creative, more collaborative, more loving, and more impactful. She lets loose a little and begins to play, have fun, and dream. She lets go of who she thinks she should be, who others want her to be, and she lets her true light shine. She creates an extraordinary life in which she has a starring role.
What is a Personal Renewal Group (PRG)?
A PRG is a circle of women that provides community and meaningful connection, while helping them define and live the life they desire. The focus of the program is self-care, creating balance, and reconnecting with who you are. The foundation of our work will be Renee Trudeau's book, The Mother’s Guide to Self-Renewal: How to Reclaim, Rejuvenate and Re-Balance Your Life. I will also pull in other related resources as appropriate. A PRG is a circle of support and forward momentum, providing you with connection, strategies, tools, and insights for self-care and self-renewal. The journey is one that is never done and having a group like this will help us all to stay on the track we choose.
We will gather as a circle of women from across the world twice/month to come into connection with ourselves, lo know that we are not alone as we face the unique challenges of this turbulent and transitional time. By making this time for ourselves, we will learn who we are beyond our role of mom, wife, daughter, or friend. We will learn what is most important for us. And, we will come home to ourselves in a way that allows us to honor ourselves through time, reflection, connection, and a strong commitment to nurturing ourselves as we nurture those in our lives.
Ready for a little more "me time" and want to be part of a community of loving support?
Then, join me in A Slice of Serenity which begins on Tuesday, October 20th! Making an investment in these 2 1/2 hours per month will reap rewards that are priceless. The value you bring to your life will live on well beyond our brief time together, including finding friendships that last a lifetime. Taking this time to regroup, rejuvenate, replenish, and renew will spark that light that burns within you! You will be present for yourself and for those in your world in a refreshed and energized way. You will find more ease in your life. I would love to share this with you!
Why do I offer this circle?
In addition to being a life coach, writer, and teacher, I am the mom of 2 boys, 22 and 16, and I have gone through some tough times in the past decade. I have found that by taking time to connect to myself and honor my needs and follow my dreams, I am creating a life that I love. I have found that I can create peace and joy, guilt-free, even when my kids are having challenges. I offer this circle because connecting with and supporting other women to honor themselves as the beautiful unique beings that they are, to help them step in to their extraordinary lives lights me up and is one of my greatest joys!!
